Signal Terms of Service

Last updated: August 21, 2026

These Terms of Service govern access to and use of the Signal platform available at signal.elianor.org (hereinafter "Platform" or "Signal") and the services offered through it.

By accessing or using the Platform, the User declares that they have read, understood and accepted these Terms.

1. Operator and contact details

The Signal Platform is operated by:

2. What Signal is

Signal is a people network based on the exchange of services, time and presence. Specifically, the Platform allows you to:

  • create a public profile on the network after completing the Risonanza (Resonance) onboarding process;
  • publish Service Cards of type "OFFRO" or "CERCO" with an optional category and an exchange mode (SIG, money, or both);
  • appear on the map with your location, at the precision of your choice, if you enable sharing;
  • initiate 1-to-1 exchanges with other Users, rate them and keep a history;
  • send and receive 1-to-1 direct messages through the "Messages" section;
  • use the SIG wallet (currency internal to the network, with no legal-tender value) to acknowledge exchanges between Users;
  • report and receive emergency signals in the area, if you have enabled emergency availability.

3. Nature of the service and liability

3.1 Network service

Signal is a tool that connects people. Exchanges take place directly between the Users involved and Signal is not a party to those exchanges. In particular:

  • Signal does not directly provide professional, medical, healthcare, psychological or legal services;
  • the content of Service Cards is published under the sole responsibility of the individual User who proposes them;
  • participating in an exchange is a free and personal choice of those involved.

3.2 User responsibility

The User remains responsible for:

  • verifying the identity and reliability of the counterparties they choose to exchange with;
  • complying with applicable laws on employment, taxation and personal safety;
  • not using the Platform for medical emergencies or situations of immediate danger; in such cases they are required to contact the relevant public services (112 in Spain, 118/112 in Italy).

3.3 Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law:

  • Signal is not liable for direct or indirect damages arising from exchanges between Users, published content or private messages;
  • Signal does not guarantee any specific outcome in relation to exchanges initiated through the network;
  • the use of content and information obtained through the Platform is entirely at the User’s own risk.

4. Account and access

4.1 Registration

To access the Platform you must:

  • create an account with an email address and password;
  • verify your email address via the link received;
  • complete the Resonance questionnaire, which allows the system to assess your alignment with the network.

4.2 Resonance

Resonance is the Signal onboarding process. The outcome (Approved, Observation, Listening) is calculated transparently based on the responses and may be reviewed by moderators. Access to network features depends on the outcome.

4.3 Credentials

The User is required to:

  • keep their credentials (email and password) confidential;
  • not share them with third parties;
  • notify Signal promptly of any suspected unauthorised use of their account.

All activity carried out through an account is presumed to be attributable to the account holder, unless proven otherwise.

4.4 Suspension or closure of the account

Signal reserves the right to suspend or close an account, including without prior notice, in the event of:

  • unlawful use or use not in compliance with these Terms;
  • offensive, defamatory or harmful conduct towards other Users, moderators or the Platform;
  • attempts to gain unauthorised access to data, systems or third-party accounts.

The User may close their account at any time from the profile settings.

5. Service Cards and exchanges

5.1 Publication

The User may publish Service Cards describing what they offer or what they are looking for. Cards are shown to other Users of the network and may be suspended or removed by Signal if they contain unlawful, misleading, offensive or off-topic content.

5.2 Exchanges

When a User proposes an exchange based on a card, the parties agree directly on the details (schedules, duration, mode, any compensation in SIG or in legal tender). Signal provides tools to record the exchange, rate it and maintain a history.

5.3 Payment methods

  • SIG — internal network currency, with no legal-tender value, usable exclusively within Signal.
  • Money — where provided for by the card, the exchange in legal tender takes place directly between the parties, according to the terms they agree upon. Signal does not handle the financial flow.

5.4 Cancellations and disputes

Cancellation conditions and any disputes are handled directly between the Users involved. Signal may intervene as a mediator if both parties request it.

6. Internal messaging

Signal provides a 1-to-1 messaging feature between approved Users. The User undertakes to:

  • communicate respectfully, avoiding offensive, discriminatory, sexually explicit or unlawful content;
  • not share personal data of third parties without their consent;
  • use messaging for purposes consistent with the aims of the network.

Signal applies technical limits (message length, maximum number of messages per hour) to ensure sustainable use of the feature. Moderators may access messages only in cases provided for by law or for handling abuse reports.

7. Map and location

The map shows Users who have chosen to make their location public. The precision of the visible location is configurable by the User. Sharing requires explicit consent at first access and can be revoked at any time from the profile settings.

8. Alert system and distress call

8.1 Available features

The Platform offers two tools dedicated to civil and personal safety:

  • Send alert — the User reports to the local network a safety event (weather, infrastructure, community, etc.). The report is visible on the map and in the Emergencies section.
  • Ask for help — the User activates a distress call that (i) prompts contact with the official emergency numbers of the relevant area (112 in the EU) and (ii) broadcasts a geolocated alert to Signal Users within a configurable radius.

8.2 Nature of the service

Signal’s alert and distress features are a community coordination tool complementary to institutional emergency services. They do not replace public emergency services in any way. In case of immediate danger to life or health, the User must contact the official emergency numbers directly.

8.3 Displayed data and sources

Alerts shown in the Emergencies section come from public and institutional sources (USGS, EMSC-CSEM, GDACS, Meteoalarm, WHO, ReliefWeb, Official gazettes) and from monitored but unverified sources (GDELT, Netblocks), flagged as such. Signal aggregates this data without substantive modification, retains the reference to the original source and orders it by declared technical criteria (geographic proximity and severity). Completeness and accuracy depend on the external sources.

8.4 User responsibility

The User undertakes to:

  • use the alert and distress features only for real situations, not for demonstration, play or offensive purposes;
  • before acting on a report, check their own actual capacity and the safety conditions;
  • respect the privacy of those involved in emergency events, avoiding the unnecessary disclosure of identifying data.

8.5 Misuse

Sending false reports or fictitious distress calls constitutes misuse of the Platform and may lead to account suspension or closure, as well as any consequences provided by law.

8.6 Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Signal does not guarantee the timeliness or effectiveness of interventions by Users who receive a distress alert, is not liable for errors, delays or omissions in external sources, and is not liable for any damage resulting from decisions taken on the basis of the alerts.

9. Intellectual property

All content on the Platform — including, by way of example, text, graphics, logos, code, layout — is the property of Elianor or the respective licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Content published by Users (Service Cards, messages, profile photos) remains the property of their respective authors. The User grants Signal a non-exclusive, free-of-charge and revocable licence to display such content to other Users for as long as necessary for the operation of the service.

10. User content

The User is responsible for the content they publish. In particular, they undertake to:

  • not share personal data of third parties without authorisation;
  • not publish unlawful, offensive, discriminatory, misleading or rights-infringing content;
  • honour the commitments made in exchanges they have initiated.

Signal reserves the right to remove or hide content deemed non-compliant with these Terms.

11. Privacy

The processing of personal data is governed by the Signal Privacy Policy. By accessing the Platform the User declares that they have read and understood it.

12. Security

Signal adopts reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect accounts, data and communications. The User agrees to:

  • keep their credentials confidential;
  • use up-to-date and secure devices;
  • report any anomalies or suspicious access promptly.

13. Changes to the service and the Terms

Signal reserves the right to:

  • modify, suspend or discontinue the Platform in whole or in part, or individual features;
  • periodically update these Terms of Service.

Changes will be published on this page with the date of the last update. Continued use of the Platform after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Applicable law and jurisdiction

These Terms of Service are governed by Spanish law, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rules applicable in the User’s country of residence.

For any dispute relating to the interpretation or application of these Terms, the courts of S.C. de Tenerife shall have jurisdiction.
